Common questions
What does a state board of pharmacy do?
A state board of pharmacy licenses pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, registers pharmacies operating in the state, sets and enforces state pharmacy regulations, and investigates complaints and disciplinary matters.
Is a pharmacist licence valid in every state?
No. Pharmacist licensure is granted state by state and there is no single national licence or interstate compact covering it. Practising in another state means obtaining that state’s licence, usually by transfer if you are already licensed elsewhere.
How do I verify a pharmacist licence?
Each state board publishes a licence lookup for pharmacists, technicians and pharmacies registered in that state. Start from the board’s official site for the state the licence was issued in.
